標題[外電] Mavs Trade Talk: The Art Of 'Prostate Massaging'

http://www.dallasbasketball.com/fullColumn.php?id=2528
So I’m taking the Mavs’ trade temperature and I’m talking with wise DMNews
beat writer Eddie Sefko. And he relays to me a recent comment from an Eastern
Conference exec:
“Right now, it’s just a lot of prostate massaging,’’ the source said.
“I’ll let you know if it ever gets to be a conjugal visit.’’
Less coarsely (and less cleverly) put: Dallas continues to examine what
one team source calls “endless possibilities at this early stage.’’ Owner
Mark “We Suck’’ Cuban is saying he’s more quick to answer the trade-talk
hot line than he was a week ago. Josh Howard knows that he and/or his
contract is the fulcrum upon which most anything impactful will happen.
And I’ve got not only some names, but the latest in the Mavs’ whispered
thoughts on those names.
The Wizards’ Caron Butler and Mike Miller.
The Kings’ Kevin Martin.
The Sixers’ Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand.
The Clippers’ Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby.
Two cautionary notes, before we dig in:
One, this is in no way meant to suggest that Dallas is zeroing in solely
on these names; the whispers here come largely from my specific questions. …
and remember, there are still “endless possibilities at this early stage.’
’
And two, as I feel obliged to mention every time DallasBasketball.com
offers information like this: These aren’t “predictions.’’ These are
factoids and viewpoints, collected by us and filtered through us, and even
with them, there are too many moving parts involved to craft them into
predictions. As an example, as you’ll see below, none of the teams involved
and really, none of the teams in the NBA – including the Mavs – have made
definitive decisions … cannot make definitive decisions without a partner …
and likely will not make definitive decisions until the Feb. 18 deadline is
upon them.
In the case of this story, we aren't "throwing names against the wall to
see if they'll stick.''
This is our chronicling of the Mavs themselves throwing names against the
wall.
With all that said. …
The Wizards’ Caron Butler and Mike Miller.
I’m aware of the report from the note from the terrific Adrian
Wojnarowski of Yahoo, who says Dallas’ interest in Butler is declining
because he’s having a less-than-stellar year.
But that’s not even close to the way it is being expressed to me by a
pair of Dallas sources who both acknowledge that Butler absolutely fits as a
“second star,’’ or a “Robin’’ to Dirk Nowitzki’s “Batman.’’
The desire in Butler remains. For a fact.
The Mavs are interested in Butler, as one source put it, “but that puts
(Dallas) in company with two dozen other teams.’’
One issue with a Mavs-Wizards partnership here: Dallas is under the
impression that Washington wants to move Butler in exchange for talent, not
in exchange for just salary savings. As it is, Butler has just one year left
on his contract, so he’s not financially burdensome. For the Wizards, it’s
more about wanting to clean house … or maybe wanting to.
“They’ve got to make decisions about how they want their dominoes to
fall,’’ a source tells me. “From (Gilbert) Arenas on down. And when (the
Wizards) start that process, dominoes around the whole league can fall.’’
Another issue: What sort of junk will Dallas have to take in pairing with
Butler?
A separate possibility: Elsewhere on the Wizards’ roster is Mike Miller.
He doesn’t have the star quality of Butler, but the Mavs have always admired
him. So if Washington really goes into fire-sale mode, Dallas will inquire
about both.
The Kings’ Kevin Martin.
This seems to be a waiting game. The Mavs (and other teams) waiting for
Sacramento to decide that Martin and Tyreke Evans are not ideally paired in
their backcourt. … the Kings patiently (and smartly, I think) waiting to see
if they are.
Martin is high on Dallas’ wish list. But I think the Mavs might be
chasing their tails here. Sacto coach Paul Westphal knows the Mavs’ roster
inside-and-out from his time here; what, exactly, would he covet? The Kings
almost certainly would want a big in return for Martin; what, exactly, would
Dallas offer? That would require a three-way deal and that gets more sticky.
Martin could be the right guy for Dallas … for all the same reasons the
Kings think he might be the right guy for them.
And remember to consider this (short of acquiring a star via a Dallas
three-way): If the Kings dump Martin for cap room in order to pursue a Summer
of 2010 free agent, which player will they sign who will be superior to the
one (Martin) they already have?
The Sixers’ Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand.
I addressed this in this space on Thursday evening. Is Andre Iguodala
worth 56 million dollars? And if you have to take Brand, too – and that is
Dallas’ so-far impression – it makes that a $108-mil pill to swallow.
As of today? No movement. The price is too steep.
The Clippers’ Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby.
Conventional wisdom has it that Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling won’t
pay all his guys forever, that LAC has too many bigs, that because they’re
not going anywhere as a team, Sterling will be a seller.
The Mavs – long-time admirers of Kaman, in particular – were not certain
about that. … as of late Tuesday night, when a Dallas source indicated to me
that the Mavs believed the Clippers saw themselves as team with a
still-young core, as a team that is playing better as the trade deadline
approaches, and as a team that “holds some cards’’ as opposed to a team
that needs to “fold.’’
Of course, suddenly, as our David Lord points out, that’s changed now
with Mike Dunleavy’s dismissal at coach.
And immediately, we see just how many “moving parts’’ there are to all
of this. We see why trade “predictions’’ made two weeks before the
deadline are worth little.
The Mavs must decide they want to move Josh Howard, they must decide what
other parts they are willing to sacrifice, they might weigh all that against
keeping his contract for the summer, they must also weigh whether he’s about
to become an effective contributor here for the next few months, they must
decide whether they want to out-bid others for the prizes. … oh, and … to
paraphrase one exec:
“We’ve got to decide how worth it it is to move up one notch.’’
In other words: Would the Mavs’ expensive grab at the “brass ring’’
actually be a grab at nothing more than second place in the West?
And even once they’ve decided all those things … they’ve got to get
the Clippers or the Kings or the Sixers or the Wizards or whomever to see it
all the same way.
Therefore, again, right now, it’s just a lot of prostate massaging.
I’ll let you know if it ever gets to be a conjugal visit.
外電作者認為小牛現在交易有四個方向
1.巫師的Butler和Mike Miller
據說巫師想要拿Butler換年輕潛力
小牛沒辦法提供巫師想要的
所以小牛對Butler興趣慢慢降低
2.國王的Kevin Martin
Camby
這筆交易講了將近三年了
在快艇教練辭職後
這交易有可能會被重新拿出來談
