Minutes at PF could spark Marion

ORLANDO, Fla. -- One of the results of the recent shakeup of the roster is
that Shawn Marion will play more minutes at power forward.

That's fine with Marion, who had some of his best years as an undersized 4
for the Phoenix Suns.

"Everything goes through the 4," Marion said of the Mavs' offense. "Why
wouldn't I want to be there?"

Marion, whose scoring average (11.6 ppg) is the lowest since his rookie
season, has often felt like he isn't in the flow of the offense this season.
There have been too many possessions where he just stands on the weak side
waiting for something to happen, making it impossible to get a rhythm.

"The key is to keep him on the move, whether he’s setting ball screens,
making cut, getting in transition," coach Rick Carlisle said. "We’ve got to
keep him on the move, because he’s a great cutter and a great finisher. He
causes problems with his ability to knife to the basket."

That's especially true when Marion gets matched up against a bigger, slower
power forward.
