 Guard Von Wafer will sign a 10-day contract today, but the Mavericks decided
not to tender 6-11 Dwayne Jones a contract after he worked out for them
Tuesday, a league source said.

Jones has been playing in the NBDL at Austin and the Mavericks apparently
will look elsewhere for help in the middle. Jake Voskuhl, who was with the
team in training camp, is a possibility.

But the Mavericks may wait until the dust settles over the next week as
several players are expected to be waived or bought out of their contracts.

One reason the Mavericks need them is for practices. They were down to nine
available players Tuesday when Matt Carroll was excused to be with wife
Melanie for the birth of their second child, Charlotte Grace. Carroll is
expected back with the team today.
