Mavs must be smarter on defense

DALLAS -- The Mavericks' defense this month has been simply unacceptable.

Coach Rick Carlisle made defense the focus of training camp. The Mavs
responded with by starting the season with two strong months, ranking in the
league's top six or seven in defensive efficiency.

Then came January. The Mavs are allowing their opponents to shoot 48 percent
from the floor this month, which ranks near the bottom of the league.

"We’re still right there to be solid, but we’ve got to be steadfast about
the commitment," Carlisle said. "It’s work. It’s work."

Erick Dampier's knee problem has been an issue, but Carlisle isn't satisfied
with his team's defensive decision-making this month. He used a play in the
fourth quarter of Thursday's loss as an example: Jason Terry gambled for a
steal, allowing Goran Dragic to get wide open for a 3-pointer that sparked
the Suns' run.

"It's a percentage game," Carlisle said. "You've got to be aggressive, but
you have to have the right balance of aggression and discretion."

且開季兩個月小牛隊確實也再防守這一部份做得很出色，防守EFF是全

從今年一月起，小牛平均讓對手有4成8的高命中率。而來到二月，小牛
的防守EFF已經掉到聯盟的倒數排名了。

Carlisle表示小牛必須再防守端更加努力，邁進球隊當初的目標。一切
必需要從防守做起。

雖然Dampier的左膝傷多少影響了小牛的防守端，但Carlisle表示對於
球隊過去一個月裡的防守很不滿意。

Carlisle表示籃球比賽命中率很重要，我們必需更加積極，不過我們必需
把我們的積極度使用在正確的地方。
