 The Mavericks like to bring Jason Terry off the bench because he gives them
instant energy and provides much-needed scoring punch.

Terry was so good in that role last season that he averaged 19.6 points en
route to being named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year.

Now Terry is starting at shooting guard. And the Mavericks are a better team
because of it.

Terry made his fourth consecutive start Tuesday night and scored 21 points on
8-of-15 shooting, helping lift Dallas to a home victory over Milwaukee. After
the game, he said his new starting gig should be permanent, in part because
of the emergence of rookie Rodrigue Beaubois.

"I've talked to Coach [Rick Carlisle] about it and we're comfortable now that
it's the right thing," Terry said. "It's working well. ...

"If he needs me to go back to the bench, I'll make a fuss about it."

Since being inserted into the starting lineup Jan. 20 at Washington, Terry
has given the Mavericks a go-to option in the first quarter to help them get
over their recent string of slow starts. He's helped fill the void left by a
struggling Josh Howard.

Terry has scored at least 20 points in three of his four starts during this
stretch, and the Mavericks have won each game.

Five players have started at shooting guard for the Mavericks this season,
but they seem to have finally found the answer.
