Mark Cuban refuses to talk about Rick Carlisle's future before Game 5 Other times, he bristled while speaking to a small group of reporters during his usual StairMaster session prior to Tuesday night's Game 5. The Mavericks owner was asked about the status of coach Rick Carlisle, what he thinks now of the Feb. 13 trade with Washington and whether the first-round playoff result against San Antonio will affect off-season roster moves. In other words, questions an owner might get when his team trails 3-1 in the first round. "I'm not ready to talk about the summer," Cuban said. "You guys are talking like this season is over and we're down. "I mean, I know it's hard for you guys to come up with something original. But we haven't lost. We've got every shot to win this game, go down there and win and then come back here." Sure enough, his Mavericks jumped all over the Spurs in Game 5. One of his Feb.13 acquisitions, Caron Butler, poured in 19 first-half points and 30 through three quarters. Another, Brendan Haywood, started in Erick Dampier's place and was active on both ends of the court. For the record, Cuban said, "No decisions we make will be based off this series. Or, hopefully, the next series or the series after that.
