 Scouting the Hornets

They are coming off a home loss against New York. ... Chris Paul has been
back for four games since an ankle problem sidelined him and he's yet to
score more than 16 points in any game, although he is averaging 13.5 assists
in that stretch. He normally incinerates the Mavericks, averaging 33.3
points, 12.5 assists and 8 rebounds in four meetings last season. ... Defense
has been a problem. The last two opponents, the Knicks and Timberwolves, shot
over 52 percent against them. For the season, they are allowing foes to hit
47.5 percent, ranking them in the bottom five of the league.

Scouting the Mavericks

They botched the first meeting with the Hornets last month in New Orleans
when Jason Terry (one) and J.J. Barea (two) combined to miss three free
throws with 9.5 ticks left and Peja Stojakovic knocked down a 3-pointer with
6.7 to play. ... They have lost six of the last nine to the Hornets. ...
Erick Dampier has six double-doubles this season, matching his total from
last season. He is averaging 17 points, 17.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the
last two games. ... The Mavs have been excellent in close games. They are 7-2
in games decided by five points or less, or in overtime.
