For the first time in franchise history, the Dallas Mavericks made a
2-0 run through Los Angeles.

Friday night's rout of the defending champion Lakers was impressive.
Saturday night's win over the woeful Clippers was ... well, it was a win.

The victory over the Clippers wasn't pretty. In fact, the fourth quarter
was pretty painful to watch, as each team only scored 13 points in the
final 12 minutes. But the Mavs made enough plays - and benefited from
enough Clippers mistakes - to come home with a 2-1 record.

It's a heck of a lot better than last season's start, when it took the Mavs
nine games to get a couple of wins. And the Mavs still haven't shot the
ball well yet, something that is sure to come sooner or later.

Erick Dampier's play might have been the most encouraging sign from the
trip. He averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds during the two games while
providing a solid interior presence on defense. It is a contract year
for Dampier, so perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that he looks
like a quality big man.
