An encore for a cause
Mayday wants to squeeze into a fridge for the NKF show next year

Once is not enough. Taiwanese rock band Mayday hopes to return next year to raise more funds for the Nation Kidney Foundation(NKF).
一次是不夠的。台灣搖滾樂團五月天希望明年能再次到新加坡為腎臟基金籌得更多款項。

Four out of five band members-Stone (Shih Chin Hang),  Monster (Wen San Yi), A-Shin (Chen Hsin Hung) and Yan Ming (Lin Hao Ming)-were in town to perform at the NKF 10th Anniversary Charity Show last Sunday.
五名團員來了其中四位，石頭、怪獸、阿信和諺明。他們這次來是為了上星期日的腎臟基金籌款晚會《群星照亮千萬心》而來到獅城的。

Bassist Ma Sha (Tsai Sheng Yeh)[怎麼念出來像財神爺？哈哈哈！] is serving his national service in Taiwan till July.
貝斯手瑪莎目前正在台灣服役，今年七月才退伍。

Impressed and touched by the spontaneous solidarity of Singaporeans for the charitable cause, Mayday said it looks forward to participating in the event again next year.
五月天對新加坡人樂善好施、積極熱情的捐款的行為大為贊賞。他們說很期待明年能再次參加。

Said drummer, Yan Ming:"As the show went full steam, video clips of the patients were aired and tears started flowing. That was when we realised that we'd got a very important mission on hand."
鼓手諺明說：“當節目開始後，我們看到病患們賺人熱淚的故事的影片。當時我們才意識到我們身負重任。”

"And that we had better not screw it up!" Added guitarist Monster. "We understand that the patients need lots of financial support. In hope of generating more donation calls, we told ourselves we neded to put up a good performance."
怪獸：“所以我們不能搞砸它！我們明白那些病人很須要經濟上的支持。我們告訴自己為了能得到更多的捐款得好好的表演。”

Which they did.
他們表演得很賣力。

The Mayday members belted an upbeat number, Zhong Jie Gu Dan (loosely translated as Put An End To Loneliness) while hanging on for dear life on a chin-up bar.
[本人覺得記者挺誇張的，因為危險性根本不高。但是蠻好玩的，阿信還用手臂架著自己，當時很多人都在笑。阿信和諺明同時唱，怪獸和石頭同時。阿信唱的時候石頭在下面頂著他，怪獸負責幫諺明。然後唱了一段會換過來。Errr... 有些人輕鬆點囉……]
五月天一邊唱著輕快的《終結孤單》，一邊用臂力把自己拉上欄杆，'挂'在哪唱歌。

They also delivered another signature song, Sheng Ming You Yi Zhong Jue Dui (The Absolute Choice in Life).
他們還唱了另外一首經典歌曲《生命有一種絕對》。[哪裡經典了？呵呵……]

Lead singer and band leader[又搞錯了，阿信不是團長嘛……雖然通常比較常聽到牠回答問題] A-shin likened the latter song to NKF's patients, syaing:"They are waiting for that ray of light in a long, dark tunnel... waiting for help to have a better life."
主唱兼團長阿信認為《生命有一種絕對》這首歌能夠反映出腎臟病人的心聲。他說：“他們像是在一條又長又黑暗的隧道裡面，等待著一道曙光，等待有人幫助他們過較好的生活。”

Their efforts contributed to a record-breaking $6.7 million pledged. This is based on approximately 1.3 million calls made during the three and a half hour extravaganza.
他們的努力幫助腎臟基金當晚籌得破天荒的新幣6百70萬。3個半小時的節目總共接到1百30萬通電話。

A-Shin told TODAY that the charity show also gave me newfound admiration for veteran crooner, Emil Chau Wakin.
阿信告訴TODAY報章，這次的慈善演出也讓他們對前輩周華健感到很欽佩。

"Since we arrived on Friday, Wakin da ge(big brother) had been practising his song and strumming on the guitar tirelessly... to perfect his performance," he said.
自從我們星期伍[不是星期六嗎？]抵達新加坡後華健大哥就一直不斷的在練歌，希望能做出最好的演出。


Added Yan Ming:"Backstage, even minutes before his turn, he was still working on his lyrics, determinded to adapt a line or two to urge for donations."
諺明補充道：“華健大哥在後台快上台表演前還會一直想怎麼能把歌詞改一改，讓觀眾捐多一點。”

Mayday-who will be staging a reunion concert in August in Taiwan (and October in Singapore) when Ma Sha is discharged from the army-yearns for the day when it can be as well-loved as Emil by Singaporeans.
瑪莎退伍後，五月天將會在今年八月在台灣舉行復出演唱會(新加坡是十月)。他們希望有一天能夠像華健一樣那麼受新加坡人的愛戴。
[也差不遠了，繼續努力！有實力就一定行！]


The foursome are already planning their stunt for next year's fund-raiser.
他們四位已經想好明年的演出項目了。

Taking clue[這記者和編輯的英文喔……應該是用taking a cue... 唉～～] from local artiste Sharon Au's airconditioner contorting act. guitarist Stone quipped:"Perhaps, the five of us can squeeze into a refridgerator next year!"
[本人對此……6個字……想太多，不可能。嘿嘿嘿……嗯，不過那種大餐館或儲藏大量食物的那種商業行大冷庫房就可以囉……]

也許是受到歐菁仙的影響，石頭說：“也許明年我們五個人能夠全部擠進一部冰箱裡面！”
