It's Mayday, scream your hearts out
五月天來了，大聲尖叫吧！
WITH their legions of screaming fans, Taiwan rockers Mayday may be experiencing the closest thing to Beatle-mania in Chinese pop, but that has not inflated their egos.
以五月天目前所擁有的歌迷人數，他們可說是中文流行樂壇裡最據有像披頭四當年的影響力的樂團。但是他們並沒有因為如此成功而變得自大起來。
'As you can see, we're not hunks or very good-looking. We're just honest and very into our music. Sometimes, we'll take up to three days to work out a one-second part in our songs,' drummer Ming says on the phone from Taipei.
鼓手諺明在長途電話中說：“一看我們就知道我們不是猛男也不是帥哥。我們只是老實的很投入的做我們的音樂。有時候我們會花三天來研究一首歌裡面的短短一秒鐘的部份。”
Adored for their laidback charms, their appeal has reached Beatle-esque proportions in Taiwan over the last four years.
這4年來，他們在台灣受歡迎的程度可與披頭四媲美。歌迷們喜愛他們的風格。
They have released three albums and one soundtrack, selling more than a million copies in total in Taiwan and Singapore.
他們所推出了3張專輯和1張原聲帶在台灣和新加坡銷售成績已經超越1百萬張。
The band will play a comeback gig at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Oct 25.
五月天將在10月25日在新加坡室內體育館舉行復出演唱會。
Lead singer Ashin, bassist Masa, Ming and guitarists Monster and Stone took a break in 2001, since three of them - Ashin, Masa and Monster - had to fulfil Taiwan's mandatory military service. All are aged between 27 and 30.
因為阿信、怪獸和瑪莎在2001年的時候得服兵役，所以五月天暫別歌壇。團員們年齡在27－30之間。
The break upset their female fans, fearing the group might disband. They last played here in September 2001.
歌迷們當時擔心五月天會解散感到非常難過。他們最後一次在新加坡表演是2001年的9月。
Those fears have since been proven unfounded since Mayday are planning to release a new, fifth album and announced a reunion tour.
歌迷的顧慮看來是多餘的，五月天已經在籌備第五張專輯，而且宣佈了要主辦復出演唱會。
'Stone and I went to Los Angeles to learn more about record production values. It was an eye-opener. The bands there just make songwriting look so easy, so casual, yet they communicate immediately with the audience,' says Ming.
諺明：“我和石頭到洛杉磯去學習多一點製做唱片的東西。當時真的是讓我們大開眼界。那裡的樂團把寫歌表現的很輕鬆、很簡單，但是他們又能很快的和觀眾有交流。”
But Mayday is no slouch in the intimacy factor either.
但是五月天也是不吝嗇和歌迷溝通的。
Ming says: 'We're still a rock band, and everything you hear on the records, the lyrics, the melodies, is the five of us talking to fans. We're not trying to be something we're not.'
諺明說道：“我們是個搖滾樂團。專輯裡面的歌曲，從歌詞、旋律等都是我們五個人對歌迷想說的話。我們不是在偽裝什麼。”
Ming also does not hide the fact that he gets bullied by the other members.
諺明也承認自己常被其他團員欺負。
'They like to make fun of me because I'm a very fussy eater. I don't like mutton, for example, and they call me a child, even though I'm the oldest in the group,' he says.
“因為我會挑食，他們就取笑我。我不喜歡吃羊肉，他們就說我像小孩子，我可是裡面年紀最大的。”
He knows their Oct 25 gig here will be well received, but he has one request to make of Singaporean fans.
他知道他們10月25日的演唱會票房不錯，但是他還是對本地歌迷有個要求。
