``Hanging Up,'' based on Delia Ephron's best-selling novel of the same name, stars Diane Keaton (who also directed), Meg Ryan and Lisa Kudrow, as three competitive sisters dealing with rivalries and relationships as they care for the elderly father, played by Walter Matthau. The book and movie are based on Ephron's experience dealing with her ailing father. Because she lived in Los Angeles, away from her family, she spent a lot of time talking to them by phone, hence the title ``Hanging Up.'' ``He loved to have all the sisters on the phone talking about him, discussing what we should do about him,'' said Ephron of her father. ``It was that thing of needing attention and knowing exactly how to get it. With the comedic starpower provided by Matthau, Kudrow, Keaton and Ryan as the Mozell family in the movie, not to mention Cloris Leachman playing the mother who left them and their father and never looked back, there's no doubt about the amount of laughs provided by ``Hanging Up.'' ``I felt all the characters had to be slightly nuts, but in a nice way. And Diane, Meg, Lisa and Walter all have slightly crazy brains,'' said Ephron, whose sister Nora Ephron directed ''You've Got Mail'' and ``Sleepless in Seattle.'' The sisters collaborated on the screenplay. But don't expect the movie to be all laughs. Bring a handkerchief because watching the Mozell women dealing with their dad's condition can be a real tear-jerker, too. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.twbbs.org) ◆ From: 1Cust124.tnt1.orlando.fl.da.uu.
