5. Ernest Brown C 6-11 250 SO Indian Hills C.C. (IA)
Brown is a junior college big man who could enter the draft. He
transferred from Mesa (AZ) JC to Indian Hills (IA) CC this season and
signed with Iowa State in the early signing period. Brown led the
country in field goal percentage and rebounding last season, but his
rebounding has severely dropped this season with his new team. He is
a good shotblocker who runs the floor well, but he needs to get
stronger. Brown would be better served by at least one year of Division I
ball. He is averaging 11.5 points, 2.9 blocks and 7.0 rebounds per game
for the season.
6. Alvin Jones C 6-11 257 JR Georgia Tech
Jones is another center prospect who is more advanced as a defender
than on the offensive end. He had shown improvement as scorer, but he
has taken a step back this season. He is shooting just 42.9% from the
field and his scoring is down from 12.7 points per game last season to
10.8 this year. Jones needs to get stronger and continue to improve his
offensive game. He is averaging 8.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per
game.
7. Karim Shabazz C 7-2 225 JR Providence
Shabazz transferred from Florida State to Providence, where he
became eligible the second semester. He started the season strong
and had a triple-double in his second game against Long Island.
However, he has not scored in double figures the past three games.
Shabazz is averaging 12.8 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots
per game.
8. Brad Millard C 7-3 345 SR St. Mary's
Millard, known as 'Big Continent,' has missed nearly two full seasons
due to a foot injury and continues to have problems physically. He has
not played since December 30th and he has had a run-in with the St.
Mary's coaching staff. Millard is a physical presence who can alter
games with his size. He has excellent strength and a nice shooting
touch. Millard must stay in shape to avoid further injuries. He has tried
to comeback too soon from his injuries and due to not always been in
great shape, he wound up re-injuring himself. Recent results of Millard's
MRI exam showed no improvement in his swollen right ankle and he is
expected to miss at least the next two games. Millard is averaging 13.5
points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots per game. Injury concerns
could cause his stock to slip, especially with Cleveland Cavalier center
Zydrunas Ilgauskas having similar problems in the NBA.
