Source: Bennett decides to retire

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Dick Bennett, who guided the Wisconsin Badgers
to a NCAA Final Four appearance earlier this year, has decided to retire, The
Associated Press has learned.
The school scheduled a 3 p.m. EST news conference, at which Bennett will
discuss his future.
A university source close to the basketball program, speaking on condition of
anonymity, said Bennett would retire -- although it was not immediately clear
whether it would be effective immediately or after the 2000-01 season.
Wisconsin Sports Information Director Steve Malchow declined to confirm the
retirement but said the afternoon announcement ``is of that magnitude.''
The 57-year-old Bennett came to Wisconsin in 1995 after 10 years at
Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Bennett is 452-258 in 24 seasons as a collegiate coach. He is 93-69 since
taking over at Wisconsin, where he has guided the Badgers to three NCAA
tournament appearances and one NIT bid in five seasons.
Before his arrival, Wisconsin had appeared in just three NCAA tournaments in
97 seasons.
Bennett's last two teams each won a school-record 22 games. No Wisconsin
team had won more than 20 games before Bennett's tenure.
He also has directed the Badgers to 24 victories over Top 25 opposition,
including a 78-75 victory over No. 13 Maryland on Wednesday night at the
Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
Known throughout the coaching ranks as one of the game's pre-eminent
defensive coaches, Bennett's Badgers have led the Big Ten in scoring
defense for four straight seasons and have finished among the top five
in the nation in that category three times.
Bennett began his coaching career at Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1976.
He moved to Green Bay in 1985.

他真的退休了....。
各位還記得去年打進最後四強的Wisconsin所展現的驚人防守嗎？
大量的肢體接觸，讓人透不過氣來的緊密防守，慢速度的打法，
就是這支球隊的特色。然而隨著NCAA當局在這一季對於身體接觸
更嚴格的規定，Bennett的絕活也受到了嚴重的拘束。也許這也是
讓他萌生退休之意的原因之一。
唉，很可惜地，我無緣看到他最後的那場比賽轉播。

威斯康辛還能像過去那樣，頻頻作掉天份體能比他們好很多的對手嗎？存疑。

嘿嘿，昨天記者馬上就跑去問Pitino有沒有興趣接Wis.了
結果被Pitino一口回絕掉
我覺得這是理所當然的，因為UCLA在等著他嘛 :P:P
許多明星大學大概可以安心睡覺了，因為他們知道這個季後不會再被Wis.翻掉
