「 盡 早 」 或 as soon as possible 這 說 法 ， 我 認 為 最 好 改 為 by
December 20th, 2005 （ 二 ○ ○ 五 年 十 二 月 二 十 日 前 ） 之 類 ， 即 指
定 最 後 回 覆 日 期 ， 以 免 別 人 拖 延 。
十 二 月 一 日 貴 報 《 每 日 英 語 》 欄 有 以 下 一 句 ： The exhibition,
the world's largest robotics trade show, will be held until December 3rd ， 譯
作 「 這 個 全 球 最 大 的 機 械 人 技 術 貿 易 展 覽 會 ， 將 舉 行 至 十 二
月 三 日 」 。 但 第 三 版 Collins COBUILD English Dictionary for Advanced
Learners 說 ： If something happens until a particular time, it happens
during the period before that time and stops at that time 。 然 則 展 覽 會 最
後 一 天 應 為 十 二 月 二 日 ， 也 即 舉 行 至 十 二 月 二 日 。
The exhibitoin will be held till/until/to/through to December 3rd 這 一 句 ，
所 說 日 期 包 不 包 括 十 二 月 三 日 ， 其 實 難 說 ， Collins COBUILD 的 解
釋 不 可 作 準 。 美 式 英 文 的 說 法 比 較 清 楚 ： The exhibitoin will be
held through to December 3rd ， 即 包 括 十 二 月 三 日 。 假 如 不 用 美 式
英 語 ， 可 用 inclusive 一 字 ： The exhibitoin will be held till December
3rd, inclusive ， 這 也 包 括 十 二 月 三 日 。
