「 他 們 爬 上 那 魔 術 海 豚 背 上 」 英 文 一 般 會 說 They climb up on the
back of the magic dolphin ， 那 up 當 然 是 「 上 」 的 意 思 。 把 副 詞 up
置 於 句 前 ， 是 強 調 「 上 」 這 個 動 作 。
用 up 、 down 、 away 、 beside 、 here 、 there 等 位 置 副 詞 （ place
adverbial ） 開 始 的 句 子 ， 一 般 會 用 倒 裝 句 法 （ inversion ） ， 即
把 動 詞 置 於 主 詞 （ subject ） 之 前 ； 但 主 詞 假 如 是 they 等 代 名 詞
（ pronoun ） ， 則 不 用 倒 裝 ， 例 如 ： (1) Up climb the boys （ = Up
they climb ） on the back of the magic dolphin 。 (2) On the operating table
lay a man （ 一 個 男 人 躺 在 手 術 臺 上 ＝ A man lay on the operating
table / On the operating table he lay ） 。
這 類 句 子 ， 有 時 可 改 用 included 、 lying 等 分 詞 （ participle ） 起
句 ， 動 詞 用 be （ =is 、 was 等 ） ， 例 如 ： (1) Lying on the operating
table was a man 。 (2) Seated beside him was a young woman （ 一 個 年 輕 女
郎 坐 在 他 身 旁 ＝ A young woman was seated beside him / Beside him was
seated a young woman ） 。 Included in package was accommodation 就 是 用 這
句 式 。
