1. The elementary reversible liquid phase reaction, A <--> B, takes place in
a CSTR. Pure A enters reactor.
(a) Derive an expression of G(T) as a function of heat of reaction,
equilibrium constant, rate constant, volumetric flow rate, reactor
volume and temperature.
(b) Show a sample calculation of G(T) at T = 400 K.
2. The first order irreversible exothermic liquid phase reaction, A --> B, is
to be carried out in a jacketed CSTR. Species A and inert I are fed to the
reactor in equimolar amounts. The molar feed rate of A is 80 mol/min. What
is the reactor temperature for a feed temperature (T0) of 450 K?
Additional information:
ΔHrx = -7500 cal/mol, CpA = CpB = 20 cal/mol-K,
CpC = 30 cal/mol-K, k = 0.0066 1/min @ 350 K
Ea = 40000 cal/mol, coolant temperature Ta = 300 K
UA = 8000 cal/min-K
3. Describe the behavior of conversions (X) abd equilibrium conversions (Xe)
aling the volume in a PFR with heat exchanger (the second row of Fig. 1).
T: temperature, Ta: coolant temperature, T0: feed temperature
4. The combination of ideal reactors are used to model real reactors.
Please draw a combination of PFRs and CSTRs (and/or a recycle system) to
describe the RTDs shown in Fig. 2.
5. The elementary steps of a reaction A + B ==> C + D are followings. Derive
the rate equations.
(a) The surface reaction is the rate limiting step.
(b) The desorption of C is rate limiting step.
