1.(20%) One mole of solid A at 2500K is dissolved in a large amount of liquid.
Raoultian solution of A and B, in which Xa=0.2 and, which is also at 2500K.
Calculate the change in enthalpy and entropy caused by the addition. The
normal melting temperature of A is 2538K, and it can be assumed that the
ΔSm,a = ΔSm,b. The normal melting temperature of B is 2324K, and ΔHm,b=
107,500J/mol.
2.(20%) The system AB is a regular solution and can be described by the
quesichemical model. The heat of vaporization composition of pure A is 95700
(J/mole)﹔that of pure B is 12700(J/mole). At a solution composition Xb=0.4
at 750K, the activity of component A is found to be 0.53. Calculate the bond
energy of AB in this system.(Use FCC structure in calculation)
3.(20%) Prove that, in a binary solution if the Henry's law is obeyed for one
component in some composition range, then the Roault's law is obeyed for the
other component in the same composition range.
4.(10%) The moler excess Gibbs free energy of formation of solid solution in
the system Au-Ni can be represented by
G(XS)=XniXau(24140Xau+38280Xni-14230XauXni){1-(T/2660)} J
Calculate the activities of Au and Ni in the alloy of Xau=0.5 at 1100K.
5.(10%) (a) Explain why

(10%) (b) So we can say that the chemical potential of component k, μk ,
equals to the partial molar enthalpy of component k. Is this
correct? Explain your answer.
(10%) (c) So we can say that the chemical potential of component k, μk,
equals to the partial molar Gibbs free energy of component k. Is
this correct? Explain your answer.
