II. Explain (not paraphrase) the significance of the following excerpts
in the poem and in Romanticism. (30%)
1. "How do you know but ev'ry Bird that cuts the airy away,

2. "For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,

III. Answer the following questions with concrete examples. (50%)
1. In which way is Wordsworth and Coleridge's joint venture,
Lyrical Ballads, an attempt to realize the ideals of the French
Revolution? Please answer with references to the Preface and
the actual poems in the collection.
2. Explain the critique of capitalism (and other malaises of the
time) in "London" in Blake's "Songs of Innocence and Experience,"
Wordsworth's "Nutting" and "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner."
