Answer any two of the following three questions.
(1)A Streetcar Named Desire revolves around the theme of desire and death, and
the earliest and perhaps the most obvious statement in the play is made by
Blanche when she says to Eunice:"They told me to take a streetcar named Desire
and then transfer to one called Cemetries and ride six blocks and get off at--
Elysian Fields." Discuss the significance of the statement in connection with
the theme of the play.
(2)Discuss Oscar Wilde's criticism of the shallowness, hypocrisy and self-
deception of Victorian society in The Importance of being earnest. In your
discussion, try to analyze the life of the leisure class, the importance of
names, the different views of marriage, etc.
(3)Discuss the differences between the text and film of A Streetcar Named
Desire or The Importance of Being Earnest. Point out at least five examples
from the play you have chosen for discussion, and try to expound the
significance of the changes made in the film.
