Identification from the New Testament, Confessions& the Divine Comedy (共十題;試卷收回) 70% II.Essay 30% Answer ONE of the following questions in a well organized multi-paragraph essay or just a long paragraph. 1. Jesus insists that he is not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it: "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven"(Matthew 5:20). What is "the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees" like? What are the examples given in the same chapter for illustration of how to exceed their righteousness? Also draw from the parables in Luke 15. 2. Virgin Mary sends help to Dante because she pities his condition. St. Bernard thus appreciates her pity in a prayer: In you compassion is, in you is pity, in you is generosity, in you is every goodness found in any creature. (Paradiso XXXIII, 19-21) Dante--traveler also pities the souls in Circle Two, who "departed from our life because of love." When pity seizes him, however, why does he become "like a man astray," and, having heard the story of Francesca and Paolo, even fall "as a dead body falls"? Is there a difference between the pity he feels and the pity shown by Virgin Mary? 3. How is Ulysses' voyage to the end of the world a failed journey like the one attempted by Dante up the hill in the Prolgue (Inferno I)? -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.7.59
