2002)，出處的頁碼註明於每一句末尾；參考其上下文脈絡譯為可理解的中文(句中人名
毋須中譯)！注意這是翻譯題；不要用全盤改寫的方式作答！
1. Dion was a fish out of water in the quarrelsome and corrupt court of
Dionysius I, who was a patron of the pleasure-loving philosopher Aristippus
-- Socrates' most unlikely disciple. (p.177)
2. ...'you must look at the matter, my simple-minded Socrates, in this way,
that the just man always comes out at a disadvantage in his relation with
the unjust'. In other words, justice or morality does not pay and Socrates
is a poor fool to suppose that it does. (p.181)
3. The truth is that Aristotle was moved by the same open-minded curiosity as
the members of the Royal Sosiety, but because they thought of themselves as
revolutionaries they had to convince themselves otherwise. (p.224)
4. Aristotle, who was too close to the Macedonian regime for comfort, was
indicted on trumped-up charges of impiety and left Athens before he could
be brought to trial. After what had happened to Socrates, it is said that
he did not want to let the Athenians 'sin twice against philosophy'. (p.228)

1. 在柏拉圖的對話錄裏，我們經常看到蘇格拉底詢問別人對某一個概念的定義
(definition)，例如在《國家》第一卷(Republic I)裏詢問對「正義」的定義。從柏
拉圖成熟時期以後的思想來看，蘇格拉底尋找定義的作法與柏拉圖的「理型」(the
Form)有什麼關係？怎麼說？
2. 依據Gottlieb的《理性之夢》(The Dream of Reason)一書的敘述，柏拉圖三次去
Syracuse的原因與結果分別是什麼？
3. Gottlieb的《理性之夢》認為從亞里斯多德對於身體與靈魂的關係所得出來的靈魂論
，與他的另一個關於靈魂的說法--「靈魂不朽」--是不一致的，其理由為何？對此提
出你的評論！
4. 亞里斯多德的天文學認為「天體」(astronomical bodies)的運動如同地上事物的運
動變化一樣，可以用「目的因」(final causes)或「目的」(τελοζ, telos)的
概念來解釋；並認為那就是「促使太陽與其他星體運轉的愛」(love that moves the
Sun and the other stars)。這個說法引起近代許多哲學家與科學家的批評。說明近
代的批評對亞里斯多德這個說法的誤解，然後提出這個說法的正確解讀！
