the horizontal with an initial speed of 20.0 m/s. If the height of the
building is 45.0m. (a)How long does it take the stone to reach the ground?

2. A hot-air balloon of mass M is descending vertically with downward
acceleration of magnitude a. How much mass(ballast) must be thrown out to
give the balloon an upward acceleration of mahnitude a? Assume that the
upward force from the air (the left) does not change because of the
decrease in mass.
3. A 1000 kg boat is traveling at 90 km/h when its engine is shut off. The
magnitude of the frictional force fk between boat and water is proportional
to the speed v of the boat fk=70v, where v is in meter per second and fk is
in newtons. Find the time required for the boat to slow to 45 km/h?
4. The only force acting on a 2.0kg body as it moves along a positive x axis
has an x component Fx=-4x N, with x in meters. The velocity of the body at
x=3.0 m is 8.0m/s. What is the velocity of the body at x=4.0 m?
5. A 2.0 kg package of tamale slides along a floor with speed v1=4.0 m/s. It
then runs into and compresses a spring, until the package momentarily stops.
Its path to the initially relaxed spring is frictionless, but as it compresses
the spring, a kinetic friction force from the floor, of magnitude 15 N, acts
on the package. If k=100000 N/m, by what distance d is the spring compressed
when the package stops?
6. A 20.0 kg body is moving through space in positive direction of an x axis
with a speed of 200 m/s when, due to an internal explosion, it breaks into
three parts. One part, with a mass of 10.0 kg, moves away from the point
exploxion with a speed of 100 m/s in the y direction. A second part, with
a mass of 4.00 kg, moves in the negative x direction with a speed of 500m/s.
How much energy is released in the explosion? Ignore effects due to
gravitational force.
7. Calculate the rotational inertia I of a solid sphere of mass M and radius R
about any diameter.
8. A uniform disk, with mass M=2.5 kg and radius R=20 cm, mounted on a fixed
horizsontal axle. A block with mass m=1.2 kg hangs from a massless cord that
is wrapped around the rim of the disk. Find the acceleration of the falling
block and the tension in the rod. The cord does not slip, and there is no
friction in the axle.
9. A uniform solid cylinder, of mass M=6.00 kg, length L, and radius R, rolls
smoothly from rest down a ramp at angle θ=30.0°.The cylinder decends a
vertical height h=1.2 m to the bottom of the ramp.(a) What is its speed at
the bottom? (b) What is the magnitude of the frictional force on the ball
as it rolls down the ramp?
10. A small 50 g block slides down a frictionless surface through height h=20cm
and then sticks to a uniform rod of mass 100 g and length 40 cm. The rod
pivots about point O through angle θ before momentarily stopping.
What is the value of θ?
