economic challenge to the West better than India.
Why do you think Japan was more successful?

(Europe's great economic success in the last few centuries compared to the rest
of the world). Which of these two theories do you think more convincing? Why?
3. Since the dawn of civilization, human population has grown greatly. State a
couple advantages and a couple disadvantages of population growth.If population
had grown only half as fast over the last 5000 years, do you think GDP per
person would today be higher or lower? Why?
4. Why did Europeans and Chinese move into Southeast Asia? How did they
interact with each other and the vative people? How did European and Chinese
business in Southeast Asia differ from each other?
5. Briefly describe some ways capital markets had improved in 1900 compared to
