1.Two snowy peaks are at heights H = 500m and h = 450m above the valley
between them. A ski run extends between the peaks, with a total length of
1.9km and average slope of θ=30度. (a) a skier starts from test at the
top of the higher peak. At what speed will he arrive at the top of the lower
peak if he coasts without using ski pole? Ignore friction. (b) Approximately
what coefficient of kinetic friction between snow and skis would make him
stop just at the top of the lower peak?
2.A 4.0g bullet is fired horizontally at two blocks at rest on a frictionless
table. The bullet passes through block 1 (mass 1.50 kg) and embeds itself in
block 2 (mass 2.0 kg). The blocks end up with speeds v1 = 0.60 m/s and v2 =
1.2 m/s. Neglecting the material removed from the block 1 by the bullet,find
the speed of the bullet as it (a) leaves and (b) enters block 1.
3.A uniform spherical shell of mass M = 4.0 kg and radius R = 8.0 cm can
rotate about a vertical axis on friction less bearings. A massless cord
passes around the equator of the shell,over a pulley of rotational inertia
I = 0.003 kg‧m^2 and radius r = 5.0 cm, and is attached to a small object
of mass m = 1.0 kg. There is no friction on the pulley's axle; the cord does
not slip on the pulley. What is the speed of the object when it has fallen
80 cm after being released from rest? Use energy consideration.
