試題 :
1. What are the characteristics of information we have talked about in the
class that distinguishes it from other goods and services? (hint: in the
3rd lecture note). For each characteristic you list, try to give concret
examples about how it might impact the major concern of information science
in the digital era, that is, the intermediary between users and information.
2. Throughout the semester, you have had some firsthand experiences with some
of the "Web 2.0" techonologies, such as Wiki, blogging, Podcasting,
Del.icio.us, and GroupLens, etc. Describe your experiences with these
services and comment on what you have learned from each of them (list as
many services you have used as you can). Also comment on how libraries can
use the "Web 2.0" platform innovatively to serve their users.
3. The "open access" movement comprises several initiatives originated within
the scholarly and library communities to counter the monopoly of scholarly
publishing by the commercial interests. Compare two of the major approaches
to "open access": "open access journals" and "open archive initiative".
Comment particularly on the technological and/or institutional challengs
each has to overcome. In your opinion, what can libraries do to promote
"open access"? (hint: You might want to look into the "SPARC" wedsite and
Stevan Harnad's article in Nature).
