1.(10%)The potential energy of a diatomic molecule is given by

positive constants.
(a)What is the equilibrium separation between the atoms?
(b)Is the force repulsive or attractive if their separation is smaller than
the equilibrium separation?

2.(15%)Is the force of the form F (r)=f(r)r a conservative force? Explain why.
3.(15%)We observe in the earth reference frame (a non-inertial frame) that the
far away stars are regularly rotating around the earth. Of course, we know
that the stars appear to move in circular orbits because the earth is
spinning. Now according to the Newton's 2nd Law, the stars must be under
the influence of forces in order to move in circles (in the earth frame).
What are these forces?

What is β?
5.(20%)Suppose that there exists a transportation system in which Taipei is
connected with New York through a straight tunnel. The trains slide through
the tunnel under the influence of gravity and without any resistance. If a
train leaves Taipei at 10:00 am, when dose it arrive at New york? (台北時間)
(Assume that the earth is a homogeneous, non-rotating sphere.)
6.(20%)Please describe how Newton explained the Kepler's 2nd Law (the area Law)
in his Principia?
