1.The Mu-Cha incineration plant uses the garbage as fuel to raise steam for
power generation. The plant has a handling capacity of 1200 ton garbage/day.
The average gross heating value of the waste is 2000 kcal/kg. The power
plant is running on Rankine cycle. The condition of the steam at turbine
inlet is 4 MPa and 400 度C. The steam pressure at turbine discharge is
0.1 MPa. Make appropriate assumptions on boiler efficiency, feed-water pump
efficiency and turbine efficiency. Estimate the power generation capacity of
the plant. (30%)
2.Due to pinging (detionation), the compression ratio (CR) in a gasoline
powered engine will usually not be much higher than 10:1. In an auto-ignition
diesel engine, the CR will customarily exceed 14:1--and over 22:1 is not
uncommon. Based on the above information, compare the engine efficiency of
gasoline engine and diesel engine and the repective CO2 emissions on per
kW power generated basis. The energy contents of fuels are listed in the

3.A wind turbine has a start-up wind speed of 15 km/h and cuts out at 55 km/h.
The blade diameter is 60 m. The wind turbine is designed to produced 2000 kW
when the wind velocity is 40 km/h. Determine the wind turbine efficiency. For
a 24-hour period, the available wind speeds are:
