Part 2-2: Essay Questions on the Iliad
Write an essay of 250 words to answer each of the following question (40%)
1. The theme of the Iliad is war; however, the poem is definitely not a
glorification of war, but a depiction of struggles with the effects of it.
Discuss the devastating results of the Trojan War on the characters in the
Iliad whether they be gods, goddesses, men, or women.
2. A "humanitarian spirit" pervades the ending book of the Iliad and gives this
long epic poem a touching close. After reading the Iliad, a conventional
question may come to mind between Achilles and Hector: who is the true
Homeric hero of the Iliad? Support your argument with specific examples from
the text.
