1.(8 points) Which of the following circumstances might affect the price
charged by a young doctor just out of medical school and why?
(a) The doctor is heavily in debt due to student loans.
(b) The high cost of the X-ray machine that he needs in his office.
(c) This doctor has recently been sued for malpractice. His insurance company
will cover all the compensation to the patient. Fortunately for him, the
public is unaware of the lawsuit, but unfortunately for him, his
insurance company decides to raise his insurance fee.

The price of factor K is $9 and the price of factor L is $1.
(a) In the short run, K is fixed to be 100 units while the quantity of L
could be adjusted freely. What's the short-run total cost if 50 units are
produced?
(b) In the long run, even the quantity of K could be adjusted freely,
i. Calculate the marginal product of K.

6.(2 points) Consider the following news and analyze why the price of pork went
up.
台東關山一處養豬場發現豬隻感染「H1N1」，出現咳嗽及下痢，是否衝擊民眾的
消費信心，影響豬價，引起關注。不過，根據彰化縣肉品市場下午拍賣情形，拍
賣頭數到一千六百七十三頭，與五號的一千七百頭差不多，價格則達到每公斤六
十一點五元，甚至比五號的六十點七八元還要高，豬價似乎沒有受到影響。
彰化縣肉品市場總經理施明哲說，防檢局及專家對外說明，豬肉只要煮熟，沒有
疑慮，民眾對豬肉消費仍具信心，因此價格沒有下跌。
施明哲總經理說，其實進到拍賣市場的豬隻，都要經過檢疫程序，有症狀的豬隻
不可能拍賣，因此民眾可以安心消費。(中廣新聞)
