Explain the following critical opinion on “A Rose for Emily” by referring to the concrete contents of the story: (5%) …it is a story of a woman victimized and betrayed by the system of sexual politics, who nevertheless has discovered, within the structures that victimize her, sources of power for herself…Falkner’s story is an analysis of how me’s attitudes toward women turn back upon themselves…. 5. Discuss Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” as well as Susan Glaspell’s “A Jury of Her Peers” as a detective story. (10%) 6. Analyze the detail(i.e. by citing concrete textual illustrations) Flannery O’Conner’s main concerns and her attitudes toward them as manifest in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” and “Everything That Rises Must Converge,” and then briefly comment on how our knowledge of her biography can help explain the above.
