(1) The energy required to remove an electron from K metal (called the
work function) is 2.2eV (where 1eV = 1.602*10^-19J), whereas that
of Ni is 5.0eV. A beam of light impinges on a clean surface of the
two metals. Calculate the threshole frequencies and wavelengths of
light required to emit photoelectrons from the two metals. (5%)
(2) Will violet light of wavelength 400 nm cause ejection of electrons
in K? In Ni? (5%)
(3) Calculate the maximum kinetic energy of electrons emmited in part
(b). (5%)
