1.(a)In an Otto cycle, the pressures at the beginning and end of the
compression process are 1 bar and 20 bar, respectively. The
pressure is then increased to 40 bar by heat addition. Assuming
that the specific heat ratio of the working fluid is 1.4 ,
calculate the compression ratio and the thermal efficiency of
the cycle. (10%)
(b)If the compression process of a Diesel cycle increases the pressure
of the working fliud from 1 bar to 40 bar, and the volume at the end
of the heat addition process is 5 times of that at the beginning of
the process, calculate the compression ratio and the thermal efficiency
of the cycle. The specific heat ratio of the working fluid is also
assumed to be 1.4. (10%)
(c)Compare and discuss the results with a T-s diagram. (10%)
2.Explain the variation of the curves shown in (a)Fig.4-11 and (b)Fig.4-14
in the text by Ferguson and Kirkpatrick. (10% @, 20%total)
