water-gas sysytem. Please also plot logC vs PH of various carbonate
species.
2. Write the proton condition for the following systems.
(a) 10^-3M Na3PO4 + 10^-4M Na2HPO4 + H2O, using PO4 3- as the
reference species. (b)same system as(a), using HPO4 2- as the
reference species. (c)10^-3M NH4CL + 5x10^-3M HNO3 +2x10^-3M NaOH
+ H2O. Also calculate the final solution pH.
3. For the experimentally defined alkalinity endpoint of 4.5, what would
be the measured value of [ALK] in the following solutions:(a) 10^-3M(CO3)T
with initial pH 8.2. (b)10^-3M (CO3)T +0.5x10^-3M(NH3)T with initial pH8.2.
4. A rain drop is formed in a cloud and comes to equilibrium with
Pco2=10^-3.5 atm. The water droplet passes over a smokestack and absorbs
10^-5M H2SO4. Find the pH now (pH=a). The water droplet passes over
a feedlot and comes to equilibrium with PNH3 = 10^10.2 atm. Find the
pH now (pH=b).
5. Does the ALK of a nature water (isolated from its surroundings)
increase , decrease, or stay constant upon addition of small quantities
of the following: (a).HCl, (b)NaOH, (c)Na2CO3, (d)NaHCO3, (e)CO2,
(f)AlCl3, (g)Na2SO4.
