My dearest friends, Hi, this is Joyce in Austin. I've finally settled down here, and school will start next Wed. Well, what can I tell you about my life here at UT Austin? It doesn't seem to be a fun place for me so far (although I was told that most undergraduate students chose to come to UT Austin because it is fun....), and I hope there's more yet to be explored. I am now living in an one-bedroom apartment. I have a nice bedroom, a large closet, a kitchen, dining table & chairs and a living room. The apartment is very old, but it's maintained well. I've bought many appliances, such as a 25' TV (but I can't afford cable....), a microwave (but I rarely cook), etc. It is quite comfortable, and spacious for a single person. I enjoy this "peaceful" life, but I do feel lonesome sometimes. ꈊI think I'll be much busier once school starts. By the way, I passed the English Oral Assessment last last Friday. In order to be assigned as a Teaching Assistant (TA), an international student must pass this exam. I was lucky that I scored high on it. What's more, I am TAing for Physical Chemistry Lab this semester! There seem to be some experiments which I've done before, but unluckily, I didn't get to choose to grade on the experiments that I am probably more familiar with. Nevertheless, I'll tell you more on this once we start lab sessions. I have been attending an ITA (international TA) workshop for 3 days, and there are other orientations too, on how to be a good TA. We were taught a lot of stuff on how to teach well in classes, how to interact with the students, etc. How I wish that some of our teachers were taught on these topics before they started their teaching job > o Anyway, that's what I have been doing so far. I miss you all, and please write to me via emails, I'd love to see how you guys are doing, but I can't log onto the BBS sites easily. (But please don't forward me large attachments....thanks) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 128.83.254.129
