我朋友連續第三次寫了一些感想~~~
This is definitely the best performance I have seen of the NTU choir. The
good singing, musical selections and arrangements, stage presence, and spirit
of the conductors and pianists have made this performance a memorable one.
The beautiful blending and powerful delivery have held the audience captive.
As you said, there are several new members. The only familiar face I saw
was the short tenor. Gone were the ones from Mama Mia cast, like the tall,
fair guy with curly hair. Among the new members was a Middle-Eastern looking
lady with very curly hair and thick eyebrows. The performance was also made
unique/enjoyable by having several soloists with varying voice qualities. I
particularly enjoyed the duet of the 2 sopranos. It was such a beautiful
piece, and the choir has done justice to the song. The pronunciation of the
English songs was so clear that I was able to understand most lyrics. The
conductress skillfully assigned solo parts to the voices which suit the
material and for this, she is to be commended. It was pure joy to listen to
fortissimo tapering off to pianissimo at the end, with such control and
beauty. The choir has mastered doing this, which must have been a result of
practice and discipline. Not to belittle the past soprano groups, I think
this set of sopranos is the best ever, as you have several ladies who can
sing solo. The conductress must be very happy to have such a talented cast.
The male group was already strong right from the time I started going to the
performance so I can not add any more comment about them.
Although I liked all the songs they have chosen for the
performance, Sanctus and the Chinese song arranged by a student who is now in
Berkeley are at the top of my list for favorites. It was good to hear
popular songs like Bridge over Troubled Water and Scarborough Fair sang well
and with beautiful arrangements for the choir.
