    Thomas Morley(1557 or 1558-Oct 1602)為英國伊莉莎白一世時期的英國作曲家、
理論家、編輯、管風琴家及英國合唱曲學派(English Madrigal School)的重要成員。
其出生於英格蘭東部的諾利奇，為一釀酒者的兒子，小時候便常參加地方教堂的唱詩班
，接觸了不少的合唱音樂。

    Thomas Morley師承自偉大的聖樂作曲家William Byrd，惟Morley 雖在早期的聖樂
作品中試圖揣摩Byrd的神韻，其對樂壇的貢獻卻是在合唱曲上的成績。他所創作的合唱
曲較同時期的其他創作者展現了更多樣化的情緒色彩，不論在曲式或技巧方面皆然；由
於他擷取了與其性格類似的義大利特色並將之轉為英國風味，故其所創作的合唱曲多是
輕盈、快速、容易傳唱的，而這首Now is the Month of Maying便是其中相當著名的一
首。

    Now is the month of maying為一16世紀的牧歌，描寫歐洲的一個特殊節日--五朔
節（也在五月），感謝神將夏天帶來、也是親朋好友歡聚之時。現在的我們，不是在歐
洲，五朔節也不是我們的國定假日，但是是五月唷，是五月阿，希望這首輕快的小曲兒
能讓各位的五月如沐春風。
