《柳樹園畔》的歌詞是愛爾蘭詩人葉慈（W.B. Yeats）於鄉間採集所得，
有英文和愛爾蘭文兩種。1909年Herbert Hughes為其套上另一首民謠《The
Maids of Mourne Shore》的旋律，也就是我們採用的Alice Parker和Robert
Shaw所編的版本。歌詞描述男主唱與戀人在柳樹園畔相遇，但由於年輕不
懂事，終於淚眼成行。
