Theodore Edel
Piano
Theodore Edel earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the
Juilliard School and a Doctorate from the Manhattan School of
Music. He spent a year studying and performing in Italy on a
U.S. Fulbright Grant. Active as a soloist both here and in
Europe, Edel has appeared with many orchestras, including the
Chicago Symphony. His recitals have drawn praise from the
critical press. The New York Times described a "heroic
technique. . . His interpretations were passionate, yet tempered
by intellect", while the Washington Post called him a "superb
lyricist" and found his performances "filled with drama". Edel
has concertized in Russia, where he gave a master class at the
St. Petersburg Conservatory. He adjudicates competitions and
lectures frequently for music teacher groups. His book Piano
Music for One Hand (Indiana University Press) has received
enthusiastic reviews. Theodore Edel is an Associate Professor at
the University of Illinois at Chicago.
