Sightreading is difficult. We need to get
used to playing meaningful segments of music, not just be a machine, whether
we're sightreading or preparing for a performance. We need to become aware
of how our brain is processing information. It should group things and
relate the groups. At first sightread only 2 measures at a time (but demand
more than right notes, PERFORM these 2 measures - tone quality, dynamics,
vibrato, musical phrasing). Maybe sightread measures 1-2, 3-4, 1-4, 5-6,
3-6, 1-6, etc. This may seem to make sightreading too easy, but I think if
we get used to doing 2 measures well, eventually we can do 2 lines well.
