I'll say that's two different worlds to explore.
I suggest you to bring your orchestra excerpts to your
clarinet lesson and ask your teacher about it.
Not only the charaters of the music are different, your partners
are also different -- now you have to coordinate with other
strings. And even the sound of the woodwind section will
be different.
Do you have the A clarinet?
Even B-flat clarinet and A clarinet are different --- different
characters.
Also think about why composers use certain clarinet for a certain
passage -- why B-flat here, why A there, or even C.
I am talking about some general ideas about clarinet in an orchestra.
Not for a specific orchestra. *^_^*
But this is where you should begin with, I think.
The role of the clarinets in an orchestra (and how to play)....that's
really a major issue...and I don't think I will be able to talk about
it all here.
So, like I say, for being a subsitute in NTU Symphony, I will suggest
you to bring your orchestra excerpts to your teacher and learn
how to deal with the music first.
Or you can ask Hsuan-Yi Chen about it. I bet he has a lot to talk
about regarding this.
