以下是來自陳宣毅學長的大作,因為種種緣故,所以此文並未由作者本人直接刊載.

本人原意是希望直接將文章直接貼出,讓各位學弟妹自行選擇是否要閱讀此文.文
字雖然淺顯,但好事者如我,經過再三考慮,決定越俎代庖,乃將原文翻譯後再行刊
登.為了給有好考古癖的讀者留有考證的依據,每譯文之後亦附上原作,並期版上
智者先賢對譯文疏漏之處給不吝指正.
陳學長預定以一到兩週持續本文的連載,且因本人工作的緣故,此系列的文章將暫

一:
[不算引子]
我並不打算寫些長篇大論,所以我先從一個小笑話開頭.這個故事,因為某
些我不想說的緣故,我只能說:我猜這是偽造出來的故事.故事的內容是這樣子的:
傳奇的英國豎笛家Kell有次到科羅拉多某處去旅行,但很不幸竹片都掛掉
了,所以只好上街去買.他找到了家樂器行走進去,想買幾盒Vandoren牌二號半的竹
片.當然,他是使用薄竹片的.
不料,掌櫃的從櫃中拿出幾盒三號的竹片給他,:"客倌,這是您要的東西."
跟著補上一句:
"猛的豎笛家該是用厚竹片的!"
嗯,接下來還有一則故事,不過這回是真人真事:
Kell先生在美國也是紅遍半邊天,所以人們甚至誤以為所有的英國豎笛家也
都和Kell用相同的方式來演奏抖音.(老實說,我真的非常欣賞Kell的抖音,千萬不要
懷疑.)
<譯註> Kell先生的唱片在市場上並不難尋.很容易在EMI或legend這兩個牌子的唱片
中找到他的錄音,包括他錄的莫札特豎笛協奏曲,莫札特/布拉姆斯豎笛五重奏,韋伯的
小協奏曲等.想要認識他的抖音自可從這些錄音中下手.
就有這樣的一個英國豎笛家去參加美國某管絃樂團招考豎笛手的試奏會.主
考官在他考之前便要求他演奏時不要用"英國派的抖音".
"啥叫英國派抖音??"他不禁問了起來:"打我出娘胎以來我就沒有吹過抖音!!"
再來是這次的最後一篇寓言了,內容則不全是真實的(我已忘了這故事是
發生在哪個樂團及哪個演奏者的身上,我看到的出處上則是把這件事"嫁禍"給另一個
演奏者):
我猜這事發生在早年的波士頓交響樂團.當年他們聘了一位來自法國的豎笛家
當首席.而有一天彩排時曲目中有首有優美豎笛獨奏的曲子.而指揮立刻被這位先生的
演奏深深所感動,並且要這位法國佬(有人說這位先生是Selmer家族的一員,但這說法
顯然有問題)起立接受他的表揚.就在這一瞬間,這位指揮彷彿是吃了火藥一般臉色通紅
:"不會吧?!"
原來他發現這位老兄竟然在交響樂團中使用金屬製的豎笛演奏.於是怒不可遏
的他立刻開除了這個可憐的法國豎笛家.
<譯註> 對金屬製豎笛有興趣的人不妨去找找樂器圖鑑或是與豎笛相關的書籍就可看到.
長的是很像soprano sax就是.第一次看到關於這方面報導就是在高中時的圖書館,書中
是說這東西就是為室外的行進樂隊所設計,在二三零年代的美國很流行.
演奏樂器和科學上之再造決不是相同的事.然而我只是想要以一個學物理的
人的觀點來討論一下竹片的問題及關於我所演奏的樂器(豎笛)方面的事,因此在我今後
的這些文章中並不打算用太複雜的科學理論來說明.此外,也別把我所發表的文章當作是
真正具有高深音樂素養的音樂家的教學.
正因為我是做振動研究的物理人,故以下我將從空氣如何在豎笛的管中振動方
面開始討論.

Not an Introduction
I am not going to write long articles. Let me begin with a joke,
which, for certain reason that I am not going to tell you, I guess is
fake.
Legendary clarinetist Kell once travelled somewhere in Colorado and
was running out of his reeds. He found a music store and asked for
severl boxes of Vandoren #2 1/2 reeds. He used soft reeds.
"Here," the clerk responded, and gave him some #3 reeds, "better
players use harder reeds."
OK, one more story, but this time it was true:
Kell was so famous in USA such that people thought all English
clarinet players used the same type of vibrato as he did. (I love his
vibrato, indeed!!)
Once a clarinet player from England attanded an audition for a
clarinet position in some orchestra in USA. The referee asked him not
to use "English vibrato" in that audition before he played.
"What is English vibrato??" He asked, "I have never used vibrato
in my life!"
Last one, which is not all true (I forgot the clarinet player and
the orchestra's name, the original story has a wrong clarinetist in it):
I guess it was the Boston Symphony. Once they hired a clarinet
player from France. During one rehearsal there was a piece with beautiful
clarinet solo. The conductor was so moved and he asked that French guy
(someone said he was one of the Selmer family, that should be wrong) to
stand up and accept his praise. Suddenly, the conductor's face turned
blood red: "What!!"
That Frech guy used a metal clarinet to play in a symphony
orchestra.
Then he got fired by the conductor.
Playing instrument is never a scientific recreation. However, I
would like to say something about reeds, and the instrument that I
play (clarinet) from a physicist's point of view. There will be no
complicated scientific reasoning in my words. Also, what I will say
cannot substitute a real teacher with good musicianship.
Since I am a physicist who is doing research on vibrating things, I
will start from how air vibrates inside a clarinet then.
