Buffet, Selmer, Leblanc, even some of Jupiter, ...... are not bad.
The point is you need to know how to find a good one from a lot of
clarinets in stock. You need a guy who knows how to select a good
clarinet. Also, you need a good repairperson who can adjust a new
clarinet so that it becomes playable (there is only one such guy in
Taiwan, he is Huang.....).
I bet you can play better than any non-professional clarinet player
with a plastic clarinet if you are really good. The model of your
clarinet is not "THE STUFF" which determines how you sound.
If you want to play clarinet for at least another 4 years, I recomand
a professional model. Something like Beffet RC, R-13, or Selmer 10S,
10G or Leblanc Opus(?) will work. Don't buy the "most expensive" models,
you will not find it better than the above models.(you may, psychologically
, be happier, of course).
