This is very subtle.
Current research shows the tone color is independ of material as
long as the dimensions of the instruments are the same. That is,
tone color is determined by the geometry of the instrument alone.
However, current research also shows that human ears are much more
sensitive than the best experimental equipment we have now. That is,
we are much more sensitive to the details of the sound then all
machines can detect.
