I have a hamberger with me and am really tired. Need something to
cheer up because I want to go back work.
Many years ago a young British boy was in love with a piece of work
by Mozart, it was called "clarinet concerto" at that time. This is
what he said:
"As a young lad, not having an A clarinet, I used to play some of the
Mozart last movement on my Bb along with Reginald Kell's 78 rpm record
on our family radiogram. It had an adjustable speed, and I just set it
so that it would be in tune."
Because of what he did, this boy thought that concerto was written
for a Bb clarinet. I guess he did not really know what an A clarinet is.
After many years, but still 13 years from now. I bought a tape of
that work of Mozart, it was called "clarinet concerto" but performed
on a basset clarinet. Pretty cute, isn't it? I was playing clarinet in
a marching band and on my way back home from a 10/10 parade when I
bought that tape. Well, that tape kind of changed my understanding
of clarinets.
That British boy, now is known as Antony Pay, performed on the tape
which I bought. That tape is still sitting in my office, in good
condition, pretty often played. And I am considering buying a CD in
order to keep it longer.
Anyone who knows Tony Pay's email adress, please don't tell him
I am giving stories about him. I'd be scared.
