[1.1] What is Trombone-L?



        Trombone-L is a discussion list dedicated to any aspect

        of the trombone. All styles of music that include the trombone

        are discussed. Other topics include: literature, equipment,

        mouthpieces, performances, recordings, pedagogy, and even the

        messy slide treatments. Anything else related to the trombone

        is more than welcome. Those encouraged to participate are

        trombonists of all ages and levels. Even if you don't play

        the trombone you are welcome to join the list.

[1.7] What is the appropriate "netiquette" for Trombone-L postings?



        a. Read all your mail before replying. There's no need for six

           people to reply with someone's telephone number, etc..



        b. When making a comment or replying, include the section of the

           original message you are commenting on so that the group knows

           what you are talking about. Only include the minimal amount

           that lets others know to what you are referring.



        c. Post only trombone related messages.



        d. Since some email programs are broken in silly sorts of ways,

           you should always sign your messages and include your email

           address.



        e. Give every message you send to the list a relevant subject

           line. When replying to a message you should use the same

           subject line, unless you are veering off the original topic,

           in which case you should change the subject to something more

           appropriate.



        f. Avoid huge ASCII signature files. Some people have limited

           disk allocation for email messages. One should never quote

           signatures when replying to a message.



        g. DON'T YELL (use all capitals) unless you mean it.



        h. Avoid "flaming".



        i. Use a spell checker on your message before you send it. This

           can save lots of potential embarrassment, and it can make

           your messages easier for others to understand.



        j. If you have a question, search the Trombone FAQ for the answer

           to your question before you post.
