[評價] 關於史嘉琳老師的大一英文

大家好，我是史嘉琳老師大一英文下個學期的助教

最近我在版上看了許多同學對於大一英文的評價，

發現大家對老師的上課方式以及上課內容相當正面

但是對於老師的給分方式似乎有點意見。因此我向

老師詢問一番，老師表示他在學期一開始有試著將

給分方式說明給大家聽，而且認為大部分的人都有

聽懂（似乎跟版上的反應不一）。老師在看過大家

的意見以後，做出一點回應。


首先，老師認為像一般老師那樣有一個特定的公式

並沒有辦法準確且公平反應學生的學習。

例：出席  10%           作業   10%

    期中  40%           期末   40%

必須要對每個學生做些微調，也許這是某些人覺得

「不公平」的原因。


關於下學期只考一次試，老師也並不是以一次考試

訂終身，只是要比較看看考試與平常成績有沒有差

距，再做調整。

Regarding grading, I don't there is a set formula that can accurately
and fairly reflect a student's performance in a class; it must be
adjusted somewhat for each case. For example, one student may have done
really badly on the quizzes at the beginning, but improved a lot at the
end of the semester. In this case I may not count in the really low
grades. In another case, the student may have not cared much about the
class and made little effort; in that case, I will tend to count all the
scores in, high, low and in-between. And there are many more examples.
So I will continue as I am doing (I think in fact this is the way many
liberal arts teachers do it), but will make an effort to explain the
process a bit more clearly on the first day of class.

In addition, no grade is decided by a single exam; and the final exam
is in fact a collection of tests on how much the student has mastered in
each area covered in the class. It is reassuring that the final grade
often is very close to the students' average grade on all the other
class assignments of the semester, which is why in some cases the final
grade is the same or very close to the final exam grade. It is thus by
no means "arbitrary", but quite representative of a student's
performance for the semester.

今年是老師第一年教理學院，可能溝通方式比較不受學生接受。所以

接下來老師會更努力的讓學生瞭解評分的方式。老師很在意學生學習

的態度以及進步，所以他覺得用硬梆梆的公式並不十分公平。


老師也常常說他覺得理學院學生很有趣，常常會說「這樣不公平」。
