[新聞] Posada ready to return to Bombers

Jorge Posada's anticipated return to the lineup is great news for the

 Yankees. For Posada himself, it's one day overdue.


Posada is slated to be back in the lineup Wednesday after missing the

 past 15 games with a fractured right foot, but the catcher was visibly

irritated that the Yankees had opted not to activate him Tuesday night.


"I'd be happy if (Wednesday) was (Tuesday); I need to play," Posada said.

 "I thought I was coming off the DL (Tuesday) and that I would be in

there. They say no, so I can't do nothing about it. Just get ready for

 (Wednesday)."


Posada has been out since May 17, having suffered a fracture in his foot

 the day before when a Michael Cuddyer foul ball struck the catcher. The

team expected to be without Posada for three or four weeks, although

Posada maintained all along that he would be ready to return when his

15 days were up.


The Yankees have no plans to send Posada on a minor-league rehab

assignment, as Joe Girardi said he likes the way Posada has been swinging

the bat during his rehab work.


Posada's catching equipment will be altered to give him more protection

from foul balls on the top of his feet, but he doesn't foresee any

restrictions. Still, he expects to be the DH Wednesday, and judging by

the Yankees' history of being cautious, possibly another game or two after

that.



ROCKIN' ROBBIE
Robinson Cano's 2010 season continued on its torrid roll Tuesday when he

was named the American League's Player of the Week. In six games last week,

Cano hit a major league-best .565 (13-for-23) with a homer (a grand slam

vs. the Indians), five runs scored and nine RBI. Five of his 13 hits were

extra base hits. Cano also finished the week with an .870 slugging

 percentage.



"His season so far has been amazing,"  Girardi said. "How consistently

he's hit the ball - whether it's been lefthanders or righthanders - to

 me it just shows that he's maturing."



Cano went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles Tuesday night to extend his

 hitting streak to 15 games, the longest by a Yankee this season, and

is now hitting .366 with 11 homers and 40 RBI. It's the second award

of the season for Cano, who was also selected as April's AL Player of

 the Month.



PENCIL ME IN
Derek Jeter was in the lineup Tuesday night after being pulled in the

seventh inning on Monday. His left hamstring had tightened up after he

 was hit with a pitch. On Tuesday Jeter called it a "non-issue."



For Jeter, who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored Tuesday

night, there was never any doubt he'd be in the lineup.
