http://0rz.tw/BFRld KANSAS CITY -- Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte was scratched from his scheduled simulated game on Thursday with tightness in his left hip flexor tendon, and will attempt to complete the session on Friday instead. Pettitte was slated to throw about two innings to live hitters at the Yankees' training complex in Tampa, Fla., but had to push his effort back. "He said he was sitting on his couch and he got up and it felt stiff," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He backed off, which was smart. If it takes a couple of extra days, it takes a couple of extra days. He's going to see how he feels tomorrow." Pettitte has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 20 with a strained left groin, which at the time was expected to cost him four to five weeks. The Yankees are hopeful Pettitte can throw the session Friday and line up for a potential rehab start on Wednesday. "If you have to push it back a couple days, you push it back," Girardi said. "The last thing you want is a setback, because then you're talking another month to six weeks." 派派要歸隊了^.> Teixeira back in fold after birth of child KANSAS CITY -- Mark Teixeira might have been away from the Yankees for two games, but thanks to a television set near the delivery room at New York's Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, he never completely disconnected from the action on the field. Teixeira jumped back into the Yankees' lineup against the Royals on Thursday, catching a morning flight from New York after attending to the birth of his third child, William Charles. Teixeira proudly reported that both the newborn and his wife, Leigh, are doing fine, and he was able to cheer on his teammates at the same time. "I was at the hospital the whole time, but luckily they had the YES Network," Teixeira said. "I got to watch the games, which was great. Obviously I've missed games in my career, but anytime you're not even in the stadium; I've been in the training room with ice on my ankle or whatever, watching the game on TV, but it's not very often that you're at home watching the team." Teixeira said that it was tough to be away from the Yankees for a couple of games -- the first he's missed all year -- but said it was "obviously necessary" for him to be present. He was happy to see Marcus Thames come through with the big hit Thursday, batting in Teixeira's customary No. 3 spot. "That's what teams are all about -- 25 guys," Teixeira said. "It's not golf, it's not tennis. Twenty-five guys, at some point in the season everybody is going to step up in a big way. Marcus has been big for us in a lot of spots this year." Yankees manager Joe Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman both gave their blessing for Teixeira to miss the two games in Texas. "It's automatic. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I missed my child's birth or if anything happened," Teixeira said. "There's no question in my mind. I talked with Joe and Cash beforehand and said this was the deal, this is what's going to happen and if it happens to be when we're on the road, I may need to miss a couple of games. They were obviously great with it." 鐵爺小孩出生後繼續火熱吧 Grandy returns to lineup with revamped swing KANSAS CITY -- Curtis Granderson will get a chance to put his tweaked swing into action on Thursday, sliding back into the Yankees' lineup against left-hander Bruce Chen and the Royals. Granderson sought hitting coach Kevin Long's input on Tuesday in Arlington and asked for an overhaul of his swing, feeling as though his cuts had gotten a bit too long to be successful. The Yankees gave Granderson a day off Wednesday so he could continue adjusting. "It's not going to be as drastic as it may be explained," Granderson said. "If you look at it, it's not going to look different. I'm not going to be on the other side of the plate. You probably won't notice much of a difference." Granderson said that his changes will mostly quiet down his moving parts, but that this is not the most drastic in-season change of his career. Granderson said that in 2004, while in the Tigers' Minor League system, he actually batted with his hands in front of his face, then pulling them back before the swing. Now, the idea is to start his hands back further to cut down on reaction time. "It's just timing," Granderson said. "If I'm trying to get it back there and the ball's still coming, all of a sudden 90 [mph] seems like 96 because I haven't gotten to the point where I'm ready to go." Vazquez working with lower velocity KANSAS CITY -- Javier Vazquez keeps reaching back and searching for those few extra mph on his fastball, but they have abandoned him for the most part this season. While Vazquez expressed confidence in April and May that his arm would loosen up and the heat would come back, the calendar has turned to August and Vazquez is still looking at the high 80s as his normal radar gun readings. It is not ideal, but he is trying to work with it. "My arm feels good, so I don't know," Vazquez said. "I've got a lot of innings on my arm, so maybe it's catching up with me. I feel good with my mechanics right now, but the velocity isn't there. That's the bottom line. I reach back and see 88 [mph], and it's frustrating a little bit." According to the Web site fangraphs.com, Vazquez's average recorded PitchF/X fastball velocity is 89.1 mph this season, down from 91.2 in 2009 and 91.9 in '08. He averaged 92.5 mph in '07, and says he now feels like he has no life on his fastball, which is not generating swings and misses. "It could be the natural progression of age," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "He's been to 91 [mph] this year, but last year I think he averaged just slightly over 91. This year at times he's averaged 88, 89. Right now he's not doing that, and that could be a little bit of fatigue or that natural progression." Pitching coach Dave Eiland has said that Vazquez is fighting a "dead arm" period, meaning the 34-year-old's margin for error is reduced by the diminished velocity. "I didn't expect it to happen to me," Vazquez said. "I've always done my work. I worked hard in the offseason and during the season. You think you'll be able to throw the same thing you've been throwing your whole career. I hope it comes back. If not, I've got to do a better job locating." Worth noting Alfredo Aceves (strained lower back) is scheduled to pitch two innings or 35 pitches on Thursday for Double-A Trenton. He is likely to need at least one additional rehab appearance. ... The Yankees struck out 17 times on Wednesday at Texas, tying a franchise record also set on Sept. 30, 2001, vs. Baltimore (a 15-inning, 1-1 tie) and Sept. 10, 1999, vs. Boston (a 3-1 loss). ... Derek Jeter has hit safely in 10 of his last 13 contests. ... Boone Logan will celebrate his 26th birthday Friday. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.168.168.32
