Newcomers Provide Pitching And Punch

新同學們帶來衝擊

BOSTON — Brian Cashman had concentrated on acquiring Curtis Granderson, the
first new member of the 2010 Yankees, before last year’s World Series had
even started. Chan Ho Park, the last player to join the retooled team, did
not arrive at spring training until the final day of February, after two
weeks had already passed.

training, in six weeks logging all of eight and a third innings because two
starts were rained out. He increased his volume out of public view, in an
intrasquad game and two simulations, and used one of those simulated games to
practice how he would pitch to Boston hitters.

raced to cover first base, Jacoby Ellsbury ran into his right arm, knocking

Pettitte regrouped instantly, retiring his next six batters before Martinez
(infield single) and Kevin Youkilis (hit by pitch) reached base with two outs
in the fifth. Up came Ortiz, and the crowd, dormant much of the evening,
sprang to life again as he worked a full count. Ortiz seemed to guess at
Pettitte’s low-and-away slider, swinging powerfully but connecting with only
air.

His last pitch of last season came against the Yankees, in Game 5 of the
American League Championship Series. The Yankees did not even reach second
base until the fifth, when Granderson stole second, and Lackey snuffed their
best rally in the sixth by inducing an inning-ending double play from Alex
Rodriguez.

上一季他面對洋基時，是在美聯冠軍系列賽的第五場碰頭。在這一場比賽中，
