Yanks' Rivera: 'We're all human'
比較有意思的是Mel Stottlemyre說的一段話：
Pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre thinks part of Rivera's problem
is that he's trying to be too fine, to locate his pitches
instead of just letting his ability take over.
"He needs to pitch high a little more often. That's a ball
that's hard for them to lay off of and a hard one for them to
do anything with," Stottlemyre said. "I like him doing several
things, and he's gotten away from using all of the tools he has.
Stottlemyre認為Mo應該要多投一些高一點的球，這跟國內很多人一直
強調要把球壓低剛好背道而馳。把球壓低不是錯，不過那不是任誰都適
用的真理。
以Mo來講，這是有道理的。首先，Mo不投breaking ball，他的球路都是
93-95mph的fastball，不管是4 seamer、2 seamer還是cutter。high
fastball只要球速夠，和其他pitches搭配得宜，很容易誘使打者出棒，
而且還會打不到。視投手能力而定，除了要削本壘板的兩側來對付打者之
外，高低變化改變eye level也很重要。Mo如果搭配high fastball在一個
cutter之後，打者很難跟上這種fastball。昨天對KC最後三振Relaford的
球就是一個high fastball，那也就是Mel Stottlemyre想要的。
不過那是不是問題的根源我不肯定。最近看Mo出場也看他投4 seamer（
high fastball主要都是4 seamer），不是說不丟。至於丟的比例是不是
比較少也很難說，畢竟他還是cutter丟的最多，這兩年才逐漸增加其他
兩種fastballs的份量。Mel如此說，我們就姑且聽之，接下來看結果吧。
